Since 1999, international photojournalist, Beb C. Reynol has worked on several projects in Afghanistan and Pakistan, crossing borders on foot to meet with the ethnic Pashtun, the largest tribal group in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Internal warfare, past and present, has deepened ethnic and religious differences within the Afghan culture.

Beb will talk about his experiences and give a slide presentation about his practice.

FIVE NEW PHOTOGRAPHERS JOIN VII MENTOR PROGRAM

VII is pleased to announce the next roster of photographers to join its lauded VII Mentor Program, an education initiative launched in 2008 to provide professional development for emerging photographers whom VII consider to be amongst the brightest new talents in the industry.
The photographers, who were chosen from 150 applicants, will each be mentored by a VII photographer for a period of two years, to build and develop necessary skills, expand his or her own professional practice, and help broaden their professional world, such as building relationships with editors, publishers and galleries.
They are:

• Poulomi Basu (India) - to be mentored by Stefano DeLuigi
• Maika Elan (Vietnam) - to be mentored by John Stanmeyer
• Ali Arkady (Iraq) - to be mentored by Ed Kashi
• Arthur Bondar (Ukraine) - to be mentored by Donald Weber
• Cristobal Olivares (Chile) - to be mentored by Christopher Morris

The European Photo Exhibition Award

The European Photo Exhibition Award – epea for short – aims to create a free space where socially relevant topics concerning Europe are developed and discussed by talented young European photographers. The twelve appointed photographers will translate their observations, analyses and statements on a set and socially relevant subject into a photo essay. The results will be presented in a joint touring exhibition within Europe.

The International Center of Photography about to close

The International Center of Photography has announced that it will be closing its midtown museum location at the end of their lease which comes to an end January 2015. The ICP which includes a  museum, a school and a research center, is looking for a new space.

They made the following statement in an interview to Artnet News “The International Center of Photography has chosen to move from our current museum site in January 2015 in order to develop a space that reflects our vision and the explosive growth of visual communications.”

We hope than can quickly find a new space to host their incredible program!

Emory University Event: Jon Kolkin

If you and/or those you know are near Atlanta, Georgia, between March 24th and April 27th, you can join Jon Kolkin for two events at Emory University.

 

 

The first is part of Emory's ongoing series, Creativity Conversations.  These dialogues are intended to bring creative thinkers into a conversation with great Emory scholars.  I am honored to be sitting down with Tara Doyle, director of the Tibetan Studies Program, for a conversation centered around the creative process of seeking wisdom and balance within our lives, using my artwork as a backdrop for the discussion.  Tara is an astute scholar who has had the added benefit of working closely with His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, also a member of the Emory faculty.  Our conversation will take place on Tuesday, March 25, 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm at the Michael Carlos Museum.  

You are also invited to a solo exhibition of Seeking Wisdom, March 24 - April 27, in the Chace Gallery at the Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts.
