Contemporary Art Dealers of Dallas will celebrate creativity and community with a Sunday Soup Supper on November 16th at 3015 at Trinity Groves. "CADD FUNd: Winner Takes All", will be a fun, fast-paced evening of sharing innovative ideas about potential artistic projects. The CADD FUNd will make possible a high-impact idea that needs the support of the Dallas-Fort Worth arts community.
The idea for "CADD FUNd: Winner Takes All" was inspired by similar events throughout the United States such as Feast in Brooklyn, Incubate in Chicago and Spread in Santa Fe. Over the past several years, numerous organizations have taken the basic premise of a Sunday soup dinner - collect creative proposals, invite the public to pay, eat, and listen, and then democratically vote for a winner - and adapted it to their own local purposes.
This year's CADD FUNd will be awarded to a current or previous M.A. or M.F.A. candidate from an institution within 100 miles of Dallas. Six finalists will be selected from all of the applicants by three jurors including: Gabriel Ritter, the Nancy and Tim Hanley Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art at Dallas Museum of Art; Judy Deaton, Chief Curator at The Grace Museum; and William Rudolph, Ph.D., The Marie and Hugh Halff Curator of American Art and Mellon Chief at the San Antonio Museum of Art. During the event on November 16th the six finalists will present short proposals for original and yet-to-be-realized new projects. Members of the audience will have an opportunity to ask questions. The audience participants then vote for their favorite project. After a short recess to tally the votes, the Winner Takes All!
The CADD FUNd is $2500 - $7500 + and beyond. The final amount awarded is dependent on ticket sales. The winner is chosen by the audience on November 16. Tickets are $40.00 per person and will go on sale in October of 2014. Tickets will not be available at the door. ALL funds raised by ticket sales will go to the winner!
While CADD FUNd is about raising much-needed cash, we hope that it will also be a forum to discuss the many other needs and resources that help make projects happen.
When? Sunday, November 16, 5:30 - 8:00 pm
Where? 3015 Gulden Lane Dallas, TX 75212

Film: The Salt of the Earth
During the last forty years, the photographer Sebastião Salgado has been travelling through the continents, in the footsteps of an ever changing humanity. He has witnessed the major events of our recent history ; international conflicts, starvations and exodus… He is now embarking on the discovery of pristine territories, of the wild fauna and flora, of grandiose landscapes : a huge photographic project which is a tribute to the planet's beauty. Sebastião's Salgado's life and work are revealed to us by his son, Juliano, who went with him during his last journeys, and by Wim Wenders, a photographer himself.

In Paris France: LE BAL
If you are in France don't miss the exhibition "S'il y a lieu, je pars avec vous"
September 11, 2014 - October 5, 2014
« The highway is a loop. From a starting point, you always go back. Sophie Calle, Julien Magre, Stéphane Couturier, Alain Bublex, Antoine d’Agata, here they are, five artists who have hit the road in response to LE BAL’s invitation and with VINCI’s support. Looking for a story, often their own. Anonymous and yet so familiar, the highway became their creative land, their intimate playground. For all of them and for sure, an invitation to find themselves, to get lost... s’il y a lieu. »

Bedroom of the fallen
For more than a decade, the United States has been fighting wars so far from the public eye they risk being forgotten, and the struggles and sacrifices of its volunteer soldiers ignored. A Photographer with VII Photo Agency and a writer Ashley Gilbertson has been working to prevent that. His dramatic photographs of the Iraq war for the New York Times and his book Whiskey Tango Foxtrot took readers into the mayhem of Baghdad, Ramadi, Samarra, and Fallujah. But with Bedrooms of the Fallen, Gilbertson reminds us that the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have also reached deep into homes far from the noise of battle, down quiet streets and country roadsthe homes of family and friends who bear their grief out of view. Bedrooms of the Fallen is a masterpiece of documentary photography, and an unforgettable reckoning with the human cost of war.
The book’s wide-format black-and-white images depict the bedrooms of forty fallen soldiersthe equivalent of a single platoonfrom the United States, Canada, and several European nations. Left intact by families of the deceased, the bedrooms are a heartbreaking reminder of lives cut short: we see high school diplomas and pictures from prom, sports medals and souvenirs, and markers of the idealism that carried them to war, like images of the Twin Towers and Osama Bin Laden.
Gilbertson will speak about his encounters with the families who preserve these private memorials to their loved ones, and share what he has learned from them about war and loss.
