Biography
Giacomo Brunelli (b. Perugia, 1977) moved to London 10 years ago and has since then published 3 books, “The Animals” (2008 Dewi Lewis Publishing), “Eternal London” (2014 Dewi Lewis Publishing) and “Self Portraits” (2017 Editions Bessard).
In 2014 he was commissioned by The Photographers’Gallery (London) to produce a body of work over two years, “Eternal London”.
His work has been exhibited at The Barbican (Uk), The New Art Gallery Walsall (Uk), BlueSky Gallery, Portland (Usa), Format Festival, Derby (Uk), Triennial of Photography Hamburg (Germany), Nordic Light Festival (Norway), Noorderlicht Photofestival (The Netherlands), Photofusion, London (Uk), Delhi PhotoFestival (India), Fotofestiwal Lodz (Poland) amongst others.
He has had shows at commercial galleries like The Photographers’Gallery (London), Peter Fetterman Gallery (Santa Monica, Usa), Galerie Camera Obscura (Paris), Robert Morat Galerie (Berlin).
It has been featured widely in the press including BBC (Uk), The Guardian (Uk) and The Telegraph (Uk) amongst others.
In 2015 he was commissioned by the Deichtorhallen to produce the “Hamburg” series and in 2018 he completed his latest body of work on New York.
He photographs with a camera from the 60s and he prints his black and white prints in his darkroom.

London: Workshops in 2016

Magnum Photos and British Journal of Photography have teamed up to offer a brand new programme of professional development workshops in 2016.

Led by leading Magnum photographers and industry professionals, the programme presents incredible training opportunities for early & mid career photographers.


Each workshop is a two-day photographic masterclass that focuses on demystifying the business of the industry, establishing a professional network of industry contacts, understanding the requirements of the market and identifying entry realistic routes into employment.

The first day focuses on lectures from key speakers on specific areas of the photographic industry, giving behind the scenes tips and practical advice explaining how to work and succeed in their area of expertise. A second day of portfolio reviews lead by industry specialists will provide photographers with an honest, constructive and critique of existing work.

Each workshop is open to 40 applicants and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Defining a Personal Vision is a workshop designed to recognize and bring out the expression and individual voice of each student. Sometimes we need help seeing exactly what our pictures are about; how do we improve, what do the pictures mean? Over the course of six classes students will be provided with both the time and guidance that will foster a solid body of work and gain deeper insight into their own personal vision.

Learn to create amazing composites using the iPhone and focusing on just a few apps. Karen will teach you to integrate images and concepts into a final piece. Film & Darkroom 1: Beginning B&W

Film and Darkroom 1 is a workshop focused on the basic mechanics of making a B&W silver-gelatin photograph, from learning how to operate a camera, to developing film and making prints in the darkroom. Students can use a 35mm or medium format camera. The class meets on Wednesdays with additional lab time on Monday evenings.

Large-Format Photography uses simple yet powerful cameras to produce large negatives for printing in the darkoom or digitally at incredible resolution and detail. In this class everything is provided: Camera, film, and on location instruction in the field. We start on Friday evening with class session for familiarization to camera set up and operation, as well as film handling. Saturday will be spent photographing in the landscape. Sunday is into the darkroom to develop and proof the film.

Do you know where you're going next with your photography–or where it’s taking you? Taught by Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb, this intensive weekend workshop will help photographers begin to understand their own distinct way of seeing the world and figure out their next step photographically—from deepening their own unique vision to the process of discovering and making a long-term project that they’re passionate about. A workshop for serious amateurs and professionals alike, from students to seasoned photographers, the workshop will include an editing exercise; a choice between an optional photography editing assignment or long-term project review; and visits to museum galleries, including a guided walk-through of the exhibition My Dakota: Photographs by Rebecca Norris Webb.

Workshop Leaders:
Alex and Rebecca are a creative team who often edit projects and books together, including their book and Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, exhibition, Violet Isle: A Duet of Photographs from Cuba; Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb on Street Photography and the Poetic Image, and their new book, Memory City.

Best known for his vibrant and complex color work, Alex Webb has published eleven books, including The Suffering of Light. Alex’s work has been exhibited at museums worldwide and is in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, N.Y., and the Guggenheim Museum, N.Y. Alex became a full member of Magnum Photos in 1979 and has received numerous awards and grants, including a Hasselblad Foundation Grant in 1998 and a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2007.

Rebecca Norris Webb has published five photography books, including The Glass Between Us and My Dakota. Originally a poet, Rebecca often interweaves her text and photographs in her books, most notably with My Dakota—an elegy for her brother who died unexpectedly—with shows this year at Blue Sky Gallery, Portland, and The Cleveland Museum of Art. Her photographs have appeared in Time, The New Yorker, The New York Review of Books, National Geographic, and Le Monde Magazine.

Gall will explore formal and technical issues, editing, career opportunities, exhibition venues, commercial applications, and other topics geared towards the work of each participant. Richard Renaldi Workshop: Strangers in New Orleans

PhotoNOLA is pleased to present a two-day workshop designed for photographers wishing to hone their portrait making skills. The Richard Renaldi Workshop: Strangers in New Orleans offers an intimate opportunity to study with a contemporary master. Through a combination of slide presentations, portfolio sharing, location shooting and discussion, participants will explore technical and conceptual aspects of street portraiture. Renaldi will lead an afternoon shoot on the streets of New Orleans, teaching students to become more comfortable with approaching and photographing strangers. The class is limited to ten participants. 

The workshop will take place at 1128 St. Roch Avenue (formerly Homespace Gallery)
