All About Photo Presents 'Cuba es Vida' by American Photographer David Saxe

Image
Cuba Beyond the Frame: Why the Quietest Moments Often Tell the Biggest Stories Some places are photographed so often that they become almost impossible to see with fresh eyes. Cuba is one of them. Search for images of the island and you'll find an endless collection of vintage American cars, brightly painted buildings, cigar smoke, and lively streets. They're beautiful scenes—but they're only part of the story. Photographer David Saxe approached Cuba differently. Rather than chasing iconic locations, he spent three trips observing everyday life, allowing the people he met to shape the direction of his camera. The result is *Cuba es Vida* ("Cuba Is Life"), a photographic series that replaces tourist clichés with genuine human moments. The photographs don't rely on spectacle. A fisherman prepares his boat before sunrise. A young boxer trains with complete concentration. Musicians rehearse in nearly empty theaters. Children practice ballet with remarkab...

All About Photo Presents 'Where the Earth Remembers' by Oliver Klink

Image
Discover the full exhibition here A Photographic Journey Through Rural Europe As modernization continues to reshape the European countryside, many centuries-old traditions and ways of life are quietly disappearing. In Where the Earth Remembers, photographer Oliver Klink documents communities across Central and Eastern Europe where the connection between people, faith, memory, and the land remains deeply rooted. This compelling documentary photography project goes beyond picturesque landscapes. Instead, Klink captures the quiet dignity of everyday life, revealing how agricultural work, religious rituals, and family traditions continue to define communities living in close harmony with nature. His images of weathered homes, worn hands, and sacred spaces speak to generations whose stories are embedded in the land itself. Raised on a farm in Switzerland, Klink approached the project with a personal understanding of rural life. That shared experience helped him build meaningful r...

March Solo Exhibition: Civilization by Damien Aubin

Image
This series explores environments shaped by human ambition, where structures operate at a scale that exceeds individual presence. Whether meticulously maintained, fully operational, or marked by abandonment, these spaces persist. I do not seek to document decay, but rather to observe how these architectural forms continue to impose their systemic logic, even when human activity has withdrawn. In these images, human presence recedes in favor of massive, organized structures. Within this apparent coherence, a subtle form of decoherence emerges — a misalignment between monumental scale and lived experience, between operational systems and the tangible reality of the body. I approach these environments from a distance, observing how structure prevails over function. The act of photographing becomes a way of remaining within this tension — of confronting what both attracts and unsettles me. What remains is not decay as an end, but inertia — a quiet persistence of civilization beyond it...

New Solo Show: ‘When The Pavement Breathes’ by Margarita Mavromichalis

Image
All About Photo is thrilled to unveil our February Solo Exhibition, ‘When The Pavement Breathes’ by Margarita Mavromichalis When The Pavement Breathes is a vivid exploration of the unnoticed moments that quietly transform the mundane into the extraordinary. Rooted in spontaneous, candid observation, this body of work traces the pulse of the street, where chance encounters fleeting gestures, and unguarded expressions briefly surface before dissolving back into routine. The photographs, made across cities and streets in different parts of the world, reveal unexpected juxtapositions and subtle details that disrupt habitual ways of seeing. Despite their varied geographic origins, the images speak a shared visual language. Humor, irony, beauty, and oddity emerge not as cultural exceptions, but as universal human experiences. Familiar gestures repeat across borders; emotions echo from place to place. In this way, the work emphasizes how daily life, wherever it unfolds, carries more in ...

London: Jem Southam: The Red River

Image
24 October - 22 November 2025 at Huxley-Parlour Huxley-Parlour are pleased to present The Red River by British photographer Jem Southam, the artist’s third solo exhibition with the gallery. With poetic reflections on the English countryside and its history, The Red River explores rural, post-industrial north-west Cornwall, portraying the intertwining of a manufactured landscape and human industry with nature. First exhibited in 1987 and published in 1989, the series is a seminal project within British photography. The Red River was innovative within contemporary paradigms of photographic technique. It was the photographer’s first resolved work in colour, a practice uncommon in the 1980s. At times, Southam also subverts conventional compositional techniques with radical angles and close distances to the subject matter. Amid these technical transgressions, Southam punctuates the series with traditional landscape imagery which evokes English Romanticism. Made in the 1980s and revi...

New Solo Show: 'Blueprint' by Benita Mayo

Image
All About Photo is thrilled to unveil our October Solo Exhibition, 'Blueprint' by Benita Mayo This project is a deeply personal exploration of memory, loss, and inheritance. Sparked by the sudden passing of my father in 2020, it reflects on the weight of history, the scars of collective trauma, and the fragility of memory. Rooted in Virginia’s complex legacy—from slavery and civil rights struggles to the private wounds carried within families—it weaves together words and images to confront silence, honor resilience, and seek healing through remembrance. BLUEPRINT: Memory is unreliable, and time has a way of bending the truth. I have always been on ajourney to unearth and examine the stories that live within me—some through my own experience, but most through inheritance. When Daddy suddenly passed in 2020, the tectonic plates of my life forever shifted. In an instant, I knew life would never be the same. As I find myself longing to understand the past, the impermanenc...

The exhibition Life in Sicily features fifty iconic black-and-white photographs taken on the Italian island between 1975 and 1994. During this turbulent period, Sicily faced large-scale mafia violence, political corruption, and social inequality. In 1975, Franco Zecchin moved to Palermo and began his career as a photojournalist for the daily newspaper L’Ora, paying particular attention to the influential mafia organization Cosa Nostra. The engaged photographer captured assassinations, funerals, protests, and the everyday reality of people trying to live in the shadow of this threat. London: BLACK PANTHERS & REVOLUTION: STEPHEN SHAMES

Image
Amar Gallery, 12-14 Witfield Street, London, W1T 2RF 29 May - 10 August 2025 Amar Gallery is proud to announce Black Panthers & Revolution: Stephen Shames, the first London gallery show for Stephen Shames, photographer of the Black Panther Party, whose archive of Panther images is the largest in the world. For the first time in London, Shames’ powerful civil rights images of Martin Luther King Jr, Bobby Seale, Huey Newton, Maya Angelou and Angela Davis, amongst others, will be on view at Amar Gallery. At a time when racism is on the rise, Amar Gallery hopes this exhibition serves as a reminder that equality has been a struggle for millions often suppressed due to race, gender, or sexuality. Black Panther founder Bobby Seale, who co-authored a book with Shames, said of the tribulations the Black Panthers faced: “They came down on us because we had grassroots, real people’s revolution, complete with the program, complete with the unity, complete with the working coalition...

For the first time in Europe, the exhibition, organized in close collaboration with the Ishimoto Yasuhiro Photo Center at the Museum of Art, Kochi, Japan, brings together 169 rare prints, most of which are vintage and made by Ishimoto himself. The exhibition focuses on the first decades of his work, between Chicago and Japan. A key figure of the 1950s and 1960s, he was considered "visually bilingual" for his ability to combine the formal approach of the New Bauhaus with the quintessence of Japanese aesthetics. This unique alchemy is the result of an extraordinary journey. Trained at the Institute of Design from 1948 to 1952, Ishimoto embodies the first generation of photog...

Edinburg: Matthew Arthur Williams: In Consideration of Our Times

Image
Matthew Arthur Williams - In Consideration of Our Times 22 March – 15 June 2024 (preview 21 March, 6-8pm) Stills presents an exhibition of new photography by Matthew Arthur Williams. Williams is a Glasgow-based artist who has become known for a visual arts practice that explores themes of race, queerness, memory and history. A key concern that he addresses in his work is the absence of representation and how this can be perpetuated by formal histories and archives. For Williams, memory is something that has to be worked on constantly for hidden histories to be revealed, retold, celebrated and preserved. Often collaborating with others, Williams’ work typically incorporates photography, moving image and sound. In his 2022 exhibition, Soon Come, at DCA, Dundee, he combined archive material with filmed documentary footage, interviews with family members and self-portraiture to explore the complex histories tied to people and place, particularly those of Jamaica and Stoke-...

Italy: Farnaz Damnabi - Unveiled

Image
29 Arts in Progress Gallery Via San Vittore 13 20123 Milan - Italy   Farnaz Damnabi - Saffron worker, 2022 - Courtesy of 29 ARTS IN PROGRESS gallery     29 ARTS IN PROGRESS gallery is delighted to present the first personal exhibition of the young Iranian Artist Farnaz Damnabi, open now and extended owing to popular demand until the 30th September ’23. The exhibition is entitled ‘UNVEILED’ and it brings together a selection of works that tell visitors the tale – as refined as it is powerful – of a young female photographer from contemporary Iran, suspended between past and future. Women play the absolute starring role in her shots: Damnabi both illustrates and pays tribute to the Iranian female identity, which is shown here in the routine of women, mothers and workers ignored by a strictly patriarchal society, which is so late to recognise their equality, value, and freedom. Many of the photographs on display highlight issues such as discrimination against wom...
