The Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography presents the first Russian exhibition of works by Ezra Stoller, an outstanding American architectural photographer of the 20th-century.

The Guggenheim Museum, the former Whitney Museum of American Art building, Manhattan skyscrapers, the TWA Terminal at Kennedy International Airport, the famous «Fallingwater» house, the iconic building of the 20th-century – the Ronchamp Chapel and many other architectural landmarks of themodernist era in focus of one of the most influential architectural photographers will be presented atthe site of the Center for Photography at the Red October.

For many years, Stoller worked with the pioneers of modern American architecture and the mostfamous representatives of Modernism, including Frank Lloyd Wright, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Louis Kahn, Le Corbusier, Paul Rudolph and Marcel Breuer.

Works for the exhibition in Moscow were specially selected from Ezra Stoller's archive. Theexposition includes black and white photographs of public buildings, offices and private houses fromthe very beginning of his career in the late 1930s to the 1970s.

The project is realized in cooperation with the Shchusev State Museum of Architecture. Invited architect of the exhibition: Julia Napolova, P.S. Culture.

The Winners of Photobookfest Dummy Contest 2018

 

The winner of Photobookfest Dummy contest 2018 was announced at the Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography on 1st June. Andrey Ivanov’s photobook «Go there I don’t know where, take a picture of that I don’t know what» was selected by a Russian and international jury.

Andrey Ivanov about his work: «When I became a parent, I had an idea to make a photographic book for children. I started to photograph subjects and images of Russian fairy tales. At first it was a series of purely staged photos but then I noticed that some of the documentary photos found fit perfectly into this fabulous series».

Moscow: Big Ballet by Sasha Gusov

The Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography presents an exhibition from photographer Sasha Gusov, which will display a cycle of photographs of the Bolshoi Ballet Company. The exposition will include about 50 unique shots made during the period between 1992 to 2016, from behind the scenes of the "big ballet", the brand that emerged during the first and incredibly successful tour of the Bolshoi Theater troupe in 1956.

Sasha Gusov’s photos perfectly convey the dynamics and expressiveness of ballet dance. There are among them beautiful staged portraits and fascinating, finely grasped shots of rehearsals and performances. Shot on film, "on the move" and without additional lighting, they captivate with their efficiency. "Photography is documentary – it just fixing something that is happening in a particular moment," says the photographer. And Gusov, like no other, knows how to masterfully catch these random situations. Nevertheless, he not only fixes the event, but also skillfully conveys the state of the caught instant.
