AAP Magazine 37 Travels

Our 37th printed issue of AAP Magazine will feature the best projects showcasing the theme "TRAVELS".

My life is shaped by the urgent need to wander and observe, and my camera is my passport.

- Steve McCurry We are looking for your travel photographs, near and far, to the edge of the earth and to the places perhaps known only to you. Whether you're hauling around a view camera and a tripod or just pulling a mobile phone out of your back pocket, we want to see what you've captured and how you're telling your story.

There's a world out there to explore. Open your eyes to its landscapes, people, cultures - on your doorstep or 10,000 miles away. Expand our horizons!

All genres, capture types, color and B&W, traditional and non-traditional photographic and digital post-production processes are welcome for submission.

Please send us a cohesive body of work or portfolio. Only a unified group of photos will be published in AAP Magazine. Images that were previously published in AAP Magazine cannot be submitted again.

Winners will receive $1,000 in cash awards, their winning image(s) or full portfolio published in AAP Magazine Vol.37, extensive press coverage and global recognition.

All winners will have their work published in the 37th printed issue of AAP Magazine, a free copy of the magazine and their portfolio showcased in the Winners Gallery of www.all-about-photo.com.

Applications will be assessed on three criteria: creativity, originality, and the visual/emotional impact of the image. The winners will be announced on All About Photo, our newsletter and social media.

Encyclopedia Britannica defines Street photography has "a genre that records everyday life in a public place."

Photographers have been documenting their environment since the invention of photography. The image "View of the Boulevard du Temple" by Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre, shows a Parisian street in 1838. Later encouraged by improvements in the portability and quality of cameras many photographers decided to record urban life. Charles Nègre, Eugene Atget, Alfred Stieglitz, Andre Kertesz, Berenice Abbott, Henri Cartier Bresson, Brassaï, Walker Evans, Robert Frank, Diane Arbus, Vivian Maier, Garry Winogrand, Lee Friedlander, William Eggleston... are amongst the many iconic photographers who captured changes in the fast-paced world of life in towns and cities.

Capturing the essence of the urban lifestyle is now both a popular form of art and an important medium of communicating the heart and soul of a society and its people.

Send us a cohesive body of work or portfolio - capturing the weird and wonderful moments unfolding around you! The subject is completely up to you. Any capture method or process, whether digital or analog, including monochromatic toning, is welcome.

Winners will receive $1,000 in cash awards, their winning portfolio published in AAP Magazine#36, extensive press coverage and global recognition.

Life is a stream of colors. Red, blue, yellow, and all the possible combinations in between these primary colors without forgetting black and white surround us everywhere.

Send us your images - preferably a cohesive body of work or portfolio - both where colors may not just influence the pictures, but where it may also be the subject solely. The contest is open to any color photography interpretation, from photojournalism, street photography, artistic photography, portrait, nude, landscapes, nature, wildlife, urban, architecture, fashion, fine art or documentary photography.

Canada: Between Worlds: Barbara Cole traverses her artistic evolution in new exhibition & book release at Bau-Xi Gallery

The solo exhibition spans decades of the photographer’s work & coincides with the grand opening of the gallery’s new location in Toronto.

Fine art photographer Barbara Cole reveals the pioneering trajectory of her decades-long career in Between Worlds, a solo exhibition at Bau-Xi Gallery, on view September 5 – 30, 2023. Following the recent release of her new book, Between Worlds, published by teNeues publishing house, Cole’s exhibition at Bau-Xi Gallery mirrors the book’s holistic narrative by tracing Cole’s inventor-like spirit and painterly approach to photography sustained over the decades as well as where her work is heading next. The exhibition gathers works that span various points throughout her career as well as new works, together examining the ways she has experimented with photographic mediums to create imagery that is inventive, timeless, and dreamlike. The exhibition features several different bodies of work, including: selections from the new series Somewhere that evolves her signature underwater photography of the female form suspended within heavily adorned architectural spaces to create phantasmagoric scenes; selections from the series Shadow Dancing, her wet collodion practice in which she revitalizes the 19th Century photographic process with contemporary experimentation to create three-dimensional dance between light and shadow; selections of lenticulars that, paired with her underwater imagery, create an illusion of depth and weightlessness; and others. The exhibition coincides with the grand opening of Bau-Xi Gallery’s expansive new location on Dufferin Street on September 9, 2023. In tandem with artist Gavin Lynch’s concurrent exhibition, Between Worlds is the first formal exhibition to open at the new location. The artist will be in attendance for the opening reception on September 7, 2023, as well as for an artist talk, Q&A, and book signing on September 30, 2023.

For this new edition of All About Photo Magazine we chose to feature projects that beautifully capture the essence of nature, highlighting the magnificence of landscapes, wildlife, and flora & fauna. Nature photography is a captivating genre that explores and captures the breathtaking beauty of the natural world.

Nature photography not only celebrates the earth's majesty but also serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of conservation and our responsibility to protect our planet for future generations. Behind the camera lens, photographers possess a unique skill to seize the intricate marvels of our natural world, ranging from the towering splendor of mountains to the delicate intricacies of a flower's petal.
