Moscow: Big Ballet by Sasha Gusov

The Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography presents an exhibition from photographer Sasha Gusov, which will display a cycle of photographs of the Bolshoi Ballet Company. The exposition will include about 50 unique shots made during the period between 1992 to 2016, from behind the scenes of the "big ballet", the brand that emerged during the first and incredibly successful tour of the Bolshoi Theater troupe in 1956.

Sasha Gusov’s photos perfectly convey the dynamics and expressiveness of ballet dance. There are among them beautiful staged portraits and fascinating, finely grasped shots of rehearsals and performances. Shot on film, "on the move" and without additional lighting, they captivate with their efficiency. "Photography is documentary – it just fixing something that is happening in a particular moment," says the photographer. And Gusov, like no other, knows how to masterfully catch these random situations. Nevertheless, he not only fixes the event, but also skillfully conveys the state of the caught instant.

Exhibition in London: The Sweetest Taboo by Frieke Janssens

For the first time ever, I'm exhibiting my best-known work in London in collaboration with the Ingrid Deuss Gallery. The exhibition will run from 12 to 22 April @TheBrickLaneGallery-TheAnnexe and will showcase some of the work from my latest book: The Sweetest Taboo, published by Lannoo.

I've always been fascinated by taboo. My images explore some of these taboos in photo series such as Smoking Kids, Your Last Shot and Dianas, all on display at the exhibition.

London, UK National Portrait Gallery: Victorian Giants: The Birth of Art Photography

This major new exhibition brings together, for the first time, the works of four of the most celebrated figures in art photography, Lewis Carroll (1832–98), Julia Margaret Cameron (1815–79), Oscar Rejlander (1813–75) and Clementina Hawarden (1822-65). These four artists would come to embody the very best in photography of the Victorian era. Their experimental approach to picture-making and radical attitudes towards photography have informed artistic practice ever since.
Featuring striking portraits of sitters such as Charles Darwin, Alice Liddell, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Thomas Carlyle, George Frederick Watts, Ellen Terry and Alfred, Lord Tennyson.

Our first printed issue of AAP Magazine will feature the best projects showcasing the theme "Light". Light is what allows us to see. It is what shapes and colors every object, creates depth, mood and mystery. Daylight, candlelight, inner-light, traffic light... Play with light!

Where would the photographer be without light, the basic tool of all photographers?
From the blackest night to the brightest day, the deepest shadows to the starkest highlights, send us your images that illustrate your understanding and response to light!
This can be natural light or artificial light, everything from an ode to Josef Sudek to a nod to Joel Meyerowitz and his wonderful mixed lighting color photographs. The time of day and type of light often determine the mood and the feeling of the photograph.

Send us your images - series are more than welcome - both where light may not just influence the pictures, but where it may also be the subject solely.

Whether in portrait, landscape, fashion, street or any other form of photography - classic or experimental: We're open to all genres and we want to publish your best work in our first issue of AAP Magazine.
